Services

I offer online therapy in North Carolina. Online therapy is done through secure platforms, and it is just as effective as traditional face-to-face therapy. I use an encrypted, HIPAA-secure platform called SimplePractice. The virtual therapy room is like using Zoom or FaceTime but provides a higher level of security.

 FAQ’s

What technology do I have to have to participate in a telehealth session?

You can use your home computer, as long as it has a camera. If using your computer, there is nothing to download. The system is completely cloud-based and accessible from the link that is shared in your reminder email. You may also use your smart phone by downloading Simple Practice™ Telehealth App through your smartphone. Minimal connection requirements will be sent in your telehealth information paper when your appointment is scheduled.

How do I attend a telehealth session from home?

You can attend the session from anywhere you have good internet reception. Ideally, you will want to be in a quiet, private space without distraction. You can achieve the same level of results as in-person therapy using telehealth. Telehealth therapy takes the stress off rushing to the office during your lunch break or after work. You can be relaxed at home or somewhere else that is quiet and comfortable.

Do you take insurance?

I accept Blue Cross and Blue Shield of North Carolina (pending), United Health Care, Oxford and Oscar Health. It is always a good idea to check your mental health benefits with your insurance provider to ensure coverage. I can provide you with a super bill to turn into your insurance company for reimbursement if your benefit plan allows. We will resolve all this prior to the first session so you know your out of pocket costs. If you are self pay, please see my FAQ page for rates.

Is telehealth easy to use?

Yes. You will receive a reminder for your appointment, just as you do for in-office appointments. In that reminder message is a unique link that you will tap on when it is time to attend your telehealth appointment. If you enter the appointment before I do, you’ll wait in a virtual waiting room until I arrive. If I enter the appointment before you, I will wait in the virtual waiting room for you until you can connect.

Is this a secure, private way to have a session?

Although the use of any technology in health services comes with risks, the SimplePractice telehealth service exceeds HIPAA compliance requirements. There may also be some risk of someone “listening” to your session wherever you are. That’s why it is important to ensure you are in a quiet, private space.

What else should I know about telehealth with you?

I use the same therapeutic strategies as in-person therapy. I want to be considerate of your investment into therapy as well as other clients, so in the virtual world, it is even more important to be mindful of time. Other than that, after we get all of the paperwork and disclaimers out of the way, let’s talk!

What are the steps to get scheduled for a telehealth therapy session?

For new clients, initial demographic and insurance information will be taken over the phone or through the secure platform. Digitally sign any documents you receive to your email and read over the telehealth information paper 48 hours prior to your appointment.

 Therapy Style

My experience and passion developed from an early academic interest in women’s issues. To gain a holistic picture, I have worked in various settings including community-based therapy with families, clinical inpatient and with the geriatric population - which I must say was the most valuable in learning about perspectives of those nearing death and what they wish they knew or did differently when they were younger.

These experiences have grown into a professional passion for applying this knowledge to support women and girls as they journey through various life stages and circumstances. I meet you where you are (focusing on the emotional, cognitive, and physiological factors impacting your experiences). One of my favorite methods is Solution Focused Therapy. I want to learn about how you see your life if your current circumstances where different. We then do the work in-between to get you to that vision.

I am also a lifelong learner and I enjoy constantly updating my “tool-box” with techniques to best help my clients. There is no one size fits all style in therapy; I never enjoyed receiving “textbook” therapy so I believe in also just being present and genuine and my clients have found me to be relatable and easy to talk to

How I can help you …

My passion is helping highly motivated women overcome feelings of anxiety and build confidence. It is important to me that you are able to tell your story so we can develop a plan together that is unique to you to meet your goals.

What is my perception of a highly motivated woman?

I envision this woman to be driven, trusted by others, focused and either have or want to have great confidence. They desire greater life satisfaction; they desire health and healing and dream of endless possibilities. These are women who want something more for their lives, they are doers and sometimes competitive. They put a lot of pressure on themselves to always play the part. That is all awesome, but let’s be real – behind the get it done personality, there are also factors that affect women disproportionately both sociocultural and socioeconomic. A study from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) found that women are more likely to experience mental health concerns such as depression or anxiety and also experience mental distress at higher rates than men do in all age brackets. So even the most highly motivated woman needs someone to talk to and some help.
